Support Federal Recognition

Support Federal Recognition

The project is building the evidence base before launching a mass petition. Support at this stage means helping demonstrate that the FBA lineage population is self-identifying, historically definable, genealogically researchable, and important to measure separately.

What You Can Do Now

  • Submit your lineage through the voluntary pilot intake.
  • Share the project with relatives and genealogists who have traced U.S. Black family lines.
  • Encourage historians, demographers, genealogists, economists, and other researchers to review the project.
  • Follow future calls for official Federal Register comments.
  • Help us document terminology preferences and concerns within the population itself.

When an appropriate federal public-comment opportunity opens, this site will provide instructions for submitting comments directly to the government. An online petition can support the record, but it is not a substitute for the official federal process.
